Doggy Styles Pet Groomers In Birmingham ,Alabama

For A while I been on the hunt for fabulous dog groomer for my pups. I drove by and saw this groomer place called Doggy Styles. For months I been looking for places that sale groomer bands in Birmingham. So I went in and saw how her shop was. Everything was neat on shelves!! She had all kinds of stuff from pet treats to dog bowls, leashes and more. It was very clean and tidy. Best of all their was a wonderful book they kept of all the styles they have done to previous dogs.
Sounds good right? I talked to one of the groomers. She seemed very nice. Al tho I didn't like much how she was trying to tell me about the Pomeranian breed when she knows Zip about them. Other than that I didn't see much wrong with the place. One of the cleanest pet groomers I have seen so far. Only Downside is her prices are just like everyone else. Their is nothing unique about them at all. Soon as you tell them about your dog and try to tell them how you want them groom. They go on and on about wanting to sculpt your dog. She suggested I  sculpt my Pomeranian to look like a lion. No Thanks. So she showed me other different styles. I asked cant you just wash the dog with out going so crazy with the cutting. She said OK. But I don't Think she got what I was saying.  At the end this groomer is like every other groomer. If your dog has even 1 tangle they will shave them. But at least they tell you straight up. Wonderful place but Petco does a cheaper job unfortunately and do as good of a job if you can find ginger at the 150 petco.

I would advise anyone who is in to the pet sculpting or cut in to cute little styles to use these guys. They do some pretty unique styles but one thing is for sure. Pomeranian shouldn't be cut. She was so ready to cut her that she failed to even read about the Pomeranian breed, Let alone she feels diva is too small to be bred. EEEK wrong. Diva is 5 pounds. Standard size pom is around 7 to 8. And the grooming search is still on........

Reasons to Not Breed

I am new to breeding but I have learned a lot these past few years. Breeding can be fun but can have its downsides. Sometimes you get these puppy buyers who are so inspired by you that they want to become a breeder also. Their are even some breeders who shouldn't even call them selves breeders. Their are a lot of reasons people shouldn't breed. I am going to name a few. If your reason for breeding is on this list. Please rethink what your goals are and breeding period. Breeding should only be considered if you want to improve the bloodlines and the breed. Not for pleasure or fun. Here are a few reasons why you shouldn't breed.

1 I think my dogs are of great quality and should be bred.
Then no you should not breed. Just because you think your dogs are quality doesn't mean they can be bred. Call your breeder and ask them if the pup you have is of breeding quality. Sometimes a breeder may say yes but please take your dog to your local vet and ask them also. If 1 of them says no. Do not breed them at all. Their is no reason for you to do it and it could cause your dog problems and issues in the long run.

2 I need a hobby to get in to and something to do

Please do not breed. yes it is a great hobby and it takes time and commitment. If out of no where you decide you don't want to do it anymore then what happens to the dogs? Will you give them to the local shelter and add to the dogs needing homes? If you are looking for a hobby try doing dog shows first. That is a hobby that doesn't require a male and female dog to do. Doing it just because you want something to do isn't a good reason. Its just like saying making a baby or having one sounds like a good hobby. No it is not. Too many pups are born in this world just for you to use it as something to do.

3 I need money and a job. Breeding sounds like a good piece of income to me.
If that is your Best reason. No breeding isn't a big source of income. It takes time and commitment to do. You will have to market, publish ads, feed the dogs a well balanced diet, purchase new breeding stock once your stock isn't breed able, DNA every male and female you have, Register all of your pups, Take all of them to the vet, along with taking them to the emergency room if needed. Sometimes during labor things could happen to make your female have a C-section. This cost oodles of money. Do not think breeding is a source of income. Until you get buyers and become a well known breeder, Income will not happen. Even then as a well known breeder. Your pocket money will go right back in to the dogs.

4 My breeder said my dog isn't breed able, but I am going to do it anyway.
Do it at your own risk. Breeding is like art. Not all dogs can be bred. Not all dogs should be bred. and for that matter not all dogs can breed. Listen to your breeders. They know best. If they tell you the pup is breed able. Double check by taking it to the vets.

As more questions roll in I will put more and new answers. These are some of the questions that i have heard or have been emailed about recently. Some of these have been said from people at the store! Please do your homework. Learn about the breed before doing anything.

Petco Horror Story

After dap and cookies hair started getting longer I just felt that it was time to get their first groom by some one else. That person was suppose to be a professional at petco. We dropped out cookie off because we arnt very trusting about letting dap become groomed as we love his longer look. Soon as we dropped cookie off we left to go take dap home and get something to eat.

After maybe 1 hour I went back to go get cookie. With such shock I saw her hair flopping in her face. Her topknot is long and letting it flop in her face is a big no no!! We told her this and said please go put a band and bow on her topknot. To our astonishment she refused and said she was out of bows. Out of bows?! How can you be completely out of bows?! The same people who came after us she gave them their pooch with bows in their hair. Their dogs did not need bows at all. They all had short hair! We was going to walk out and maybe stroll around the store and forget about it. Until we looked down.....

Down in the basket where we put cookie she was just setting their and behind us was a trail of nothing but blood. Where was this blood comming from?! cookies paw. The groomer the same one who bought her out with no bow cut her paw so short it was gushing blood everywhere.

We ran and told her to do something about it. She shrugged like it was no biggy. The assistant quickly grabbed her and ran it thru warm water. Yes water!! and told us to bandage it. We demanded a refund and the manager. But we did not have time to stay as we was already panicking about cookies foot. We received information from a customer who said put flour on the tip of her nail to stop the bleeding. We went home and did just as that. Took her to the vet and all was fixed up again.

Few days later we went back to that same petco to see the manager. He refused to give us our money back. Told us he will deal with them. The fact is we demand a bit better than a we will deal with them issue. Why not just hand us our money back and we can go to a real professional who knows how to groom a shih-tzu. 40 bucks and we should have got the best service.

Ever since then cookie did not want to go back in petco for months. Everytime she saw petco she cryed. After she got over her fear we found some one who said they knew how to groom and just graduated from the petco school. So we took cookie to let her groom her. Did she know what she was doing? No.

To end this I will say after this conclution Please watch who you take your pets too. Exam and read up about the groomers. Find people who have taken their dogs to that person and get information. Grooming is just like getting your hair done. You dont want just anyone in your hair expecially some one who just doesn't care. We still are searching for that great groomer to groom our pups. So far no one in site.
